I\u2019m going to pay homage to people I think impacted and prepared us for where we are today. I feel our community is large and vast but if you asked most people \u201cwhere did\u00a0modern day computing all start\u201d they have no clue. I don\u2019t want this section to be a dull history lesson ( that\u2019s what Wikipedia is for) but rather a short (snippet) insight to how it all happened. Some of it I know firsthand and some of it I will like you have to research.<\/p>\n<p>My first post has to obviously go to <strong><em>Charles Babbage<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/virtualizeplanet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/babbage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-398\" title=\"Charles Babbage\" src=\"http:\/\/virtualizeplanet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/babbage-292x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"292\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/read.virtualizeplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/babbage-292x300.jpg 292w, http:\/\/read.virtualizeplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/babbage-50x50.jpg 50w, http:\/\/read.virtualizeplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/babbage.jpg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Charles Babbage is the person history sees as the inventor of computers. He was a mathematician and a mechanical engineer and lived in the London in the 1800s. At the time numerical tables were calculated by humans and were called \u201ccomputers\u201d (people who computed things). In an effort to reduce humans errors created by human computers Babbage started work on the first mechanical computer known as the <strong><em>difference engine<\/em><\/strong>. He never completed construction of it. He then set about designing a much more improved version called the \u201c<strong><em>Difference Engine No 2<\/em><\/strong>\u201d. He didn\u2019t even start to build this machine before designing his next machine known as the \u201c<strong><em>Analytical Engine<\/em><\/strong>\u201d. \u00a0He took work on this machine to his death bed before completing it, but the improvement with this design is the Analytical Engine could be programmed by punch cards.<\/p>\n<p>In 1991 the London Science Museum built the Difference Engine No 2 from Babbage\u2019s original plans to discover that it truly did work and had as equal power to modern day pocket calculators.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/virtualizeplanet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/050114_2529_difference.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-399\" title=\"Babbage's Difference Engine #2\" src=\"http:\/\/virtualizeplanet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/050114_2529_difference-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/read.virtualizeplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/050114_2529_difference-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/read.virtualizeplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/050114_2529_difference.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I found this quote I love from Babbage:<\/p>\n<p><em>(<strong>Charles Babbage:<\/strong><\/em> At each increase of knowledge, as well as on the contrivance of every new tool, human labour becomes abridged)<\/p>\n<p>And I think its apt to what we do today in the IT world.
